As Painless as Possible
About Tooth Alignment
Tooth alignment is a great alternative to braces that is growing very popular among adults. To realign and perfect your smile, a series of clear and removable aligners are created. They work similarly to braces in that the teeth are slowly realigned over time, but it is different. Braces use a pull force to realign teeth, while aligners use a push force. Tooth alignment has been embraced in recent years as a system that is preferable to braces because they are are not as noticeable. The aligners may be removed during meals as well, meaning they won’t interfere with your normal life and routine.
How Does Tooth Alignment Work?
Aligners are often called invisible braces. Like regular braces, they work by slowly shifting your teeth into a better position. They are different than metal braces in that the teeth are not pulled, but pushed into place. Because they are ‘invisible’ and removable, this method of tooth alignment is often preferred by adults. As the process occurs in stages, there is minimal discomfort.
If you are interested in tooth alignment, you will first need to make an appointment with AAdams Dental Care. Tooth alignment is a process with multiple steps involved. Here is what you can expect at your first appointment.
- A thorough examination by a specialist
- The dentist will calculate the number of teeth straightening steps
- A cost estimate will be determined
- You will be fitted for your first aligner(s)
Most patients are surprised to learn that the teeth are moved into their new position within the first 24 hours. However, it takes two weeks for the bone and gums to settle into their new position.
Each aligner will be worn a minimum of two weeks to ensure the teeth will not rotate back to their former position. At the end of two weeks, you will return to AAdams Dental Care to receive your new aligner. These steps will be repeated until the final look is achieved.
